Namaste!

Namaste Nepal is a 25 min weekly show and has been on air since 9 April 2007. Binod Parajuli produces and presents the show in Nepali with a mix of fantastic music, along with news, information and events that Nepali people living, studying and working in Canterbury and New Zealand may be interested in. The show is supported by Nepal New Zealand Friendship Society Canterbury Inc. (NNZFSC).

Since 19th Dec 2002, NNZFSC has been actively participating in community events in and around the Canterbury region. It also promotes Nepali heritage and community through educational, sports, arts and cultural programs.

After Sir Edmond Hillary conquered Mt. Everest on 29 May 1953 along with Nepali Sherpa, Tenzing Norgay, Nepali people proudly think of New Zealand as their home, away from home. Nepal is also the birth place of Lord Buddha and is situated between China in the north and India in the south, east and west. Nepal, the country of high Himalayas, majestic mountains, strange wildlife and diverse cultures is a world in itself. Nepal has a unique landscape that stretches from the pinnacle of Mt. Everest (8,848m.) to the Terai low lands (60 meters above sea level) where diverse human cultures and natural habitats can be found.

Nepal is rich in terms of bio-diversity due to its unique geographical location variation in altitude. The climate is also diverse in nature ranging from Sub-tropical to Arctic due to the country's attitudinal variation. Nepal has occupied only 1% of the earth but it is a home to 2% of all the flowering plants in the world, 8% of the world's population of birds, 4% of mammals on earth, 11 of the world's 15 families of butterflies, 600 indigenous plant families and 319 species of exotic orchids. The national language of Nepal is Nepali, Nepal has more than 105 ethnic groups and 92 spoken languages and Nepali is the national language.
