Dunedin’s Toroa Northern Royal Albatross colony may be younger than you think. Hear the origin story of this local wildlife celebrity from Hoani Langsbury, the Ecotourism Manager for the Otago Peninsula Trust, and find out what it took to encourage such an iconic species to breed on the tip of the Otago Peninsula, their only mainland breeding site in the world. Every year, the Royal Albatross Centre has a livestream of one of their nesting albatross pairs. This year you get to watch the family of RLK and GLG (named after their coloured plastic leg bands) raise their chick. Here's the link to the Royal Albatross Live Webcam: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_soyZW1MZg&ab_channel=DepartmentofConservation If you want to learn more about the life of Lance Richdale, you can check out Seabird Genius (2011) written by Neville Peat to read about Richdale's famous work with the Toroa Northern Royal Albatross and Hoiho Yellow-eyed Penguin.
