The theme of the 2024 Speech Awards was: Te Taura Tangata, The Rope of Unity. Just as the intertwining strands of a rope create a unified, cohesive whole that is stronger than each individual strand, unity among people creates a stronger, unified society. This year, there were 9 entrants in the Hawke’s Bay Race Unity Speech Awards. Students from years 11, 12, and 13, and from 7 different schools, participated. After listening carefully to all 9 speeches, the judges decided that the winner of this year’s Awards was Audrey Anna Robin, a year 11 student from Napier Girls High School. You can hear her winning speech, after which David will chat with Audrey. The show also includes the speeches of the runner-up, Sophie Webber, a year 13 student from Woodford House in Havelock North; and Chris Proctor, a year 12 student at Lindisfarne College, Hastings. All nine speeches are available to listen to on the audio.com website. In the Audio.com search bar, type “Race Unity Speech Awards 2024”.
